GROW THROUGH WHAT YOU GO THROUGH

GROW THROUGH WHAT YOU GO THROUGH

(-TYRESE GIBSON)

“UNDERSTANDING WHAT’S WRONG IS IMPORTANT BUT IMPLEMENTING THE CHANGES TAKES TIME…”

Do we exactly know what does depression actually means?

NO, we don’t even know the definition of depression but still we are relating it to ourselves.

YOU SAY YOU”RE DEPRESSED – ALL I SEE IS A RESILIENCE. YOU ARE ALLOWED TO FEEL MESSED UP AND INSIDE OUT. IT DOESN’T MEAN YOU ARE DEFECTIVE –IT JUST MEANS YOU ARE HUMAN” –DAVID MITCHELL

First let me clear one myth about depression, that it is a dangerous thing, but in actual we are the only one who makes it.

If I ask you what depression exactly means, many of you will say

  • It is a serious medical issue.
  • It is a dangerous disease.
  • It destroys a person’s mental health and so on.

I agree with all these points BUT don’t you think they all have the same reasons that is DISAPPOINTMENT.

In simple words DEPRESSION = DISAPPOINTMENT OR it is the line drawn between illness and normality.

A normal human being can be disappointed by many reasons –

  • It can be stress.
  • Breakups.
  • Health.
  • Financial status.
  • Peer recognition.
  • Over thinking .
  • Frustration.
  • Social media , etc.

And here comes our basic role in “HOW WE HANDLE SUCH SITUATIONS”. If you are having a down day, have it, let yourself feel the emotions –BUT DON’T STAY THERE, I repeat DON’T. Do not take everything to your heart, sometimes it is better to let it be.

Depression is an internal feeling, you cannot finish it the whole way the only thing you can do is prevention…….prevent it.

You can prevent it through small steps:

  • Meet yourself, what you are, just love yourself.
  • If you need to wallow, wallow – but do so constructively (never suppress your feelings and emotions).
  • Know that today isn’t indicative of tomorrow (your today’s mood, thought and emotions doesn’t belongs to tomorrow).
  • We always find ourselves focusing on one thing that went wrong instead of the many thing that went right – simply just don’t do that.
  • Do the opposite of what depression voice suggests (never listen to your negative and irrational voice).
  • Set attainable goals.
  • Reward your efforts.
  • Celebrate your small- small achievements.
  • Set a gentle schedule (it will keep you in control).
  • Do something you enjoy and which cherishes you.
  • Spent time with loved ones.

DEPRESSION CYCLE

Here’s the list of countries with the greatest burden of mental and behavioral disorders in terms of most year of life lost due to disability or death adjusted for population size, according to WHO.

  1. India
  2. China
  3. USA
  4. Brazil
  5. Indonesia
  6. Russia
  7. Pakistan
  • A study reported in WHO, conducted for the NCMH (National care of medical health), states that at least 6.5 per cent of Indian population suffers from depression on mental disorders. That means 1 in 100000 people. The average suicide rate in India is 10.9 per cent for every lakh people (majority people are below 44 years of age).
  • One in six people, aged 10-19 years, is suffering from depression.
  • Mental health or depression account for 16 per cent of the global burden of disease and injury in people aged 10-19 years.
  • Basically half of mental health starts by the age of 14 years.
  • Globally, it is cause of illness and by upcoming years it will be the leading cause of many deaths.

In the end one message for you all….

Do not set unrealistic goals for yourself. They only demotivates. Actually the point is, in the first place you expect a lot from yourself  we think we can do this, that and all BUT in the end the only thing we get is break down of our expectations and when expectations break down it is not just expectations that is breaks down, it is your morale that breaks down. Don’t let your morale get break down just because of over expectations.

Give yourself the grace to accept that while some days will be difficult, some days will also be good.

HAVE FATH IN YOURSELF.
