CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

  • India has been witnessing a rise in the number of coronavirus cases. 
  • The new number has reached to 147. 
  • There have been 3 deaths in total.
  • The government has allowed 51 private diagnostics partners for conducting the tests. 
  • However, these tests will not be free. 

PIL against U.P. law on recovery of damage to property

  • the or­dinance under question is not consistent and is in con­tradiction and departure from the ordinance ­making power of the State provided under Article 213 of the Constitution.
  • As per the ordinance, the owner of any private proper­ ty or the head of the office concerned, in respect of pu­blic property, may file claims for compensation within three months of any incident
  • The claim can cite as respon­ dents those who “exhorted” or “instigated” or “commit­ ted” acts
  • Every order or award passed by the Claims Tribunal will be “final” and no appeal against such orders will be “maintainable” before any court

Kyasa­nur Forest Disease (KFD)

  • A new disease is spreading among the Bonnet macaque population in Ker­ala, claiming 11 monkeys so far.
  • It is suspected to be Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) which could be transmitted to human beings by ticks found on monkeys. 

Tejas gets operational

  • The first Light Combat Air­craft, Tejas, in Final Opera­tional Clearance­ standard (SP­21) took to the skies for its maiden flight.
  • This would pave the way for the production of the remaining 15 fighters from FOC [Final Operational Clearance] block, which are planned to be delivered during the next financial year.

Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi gets nominated to Rajya Sabha

  • It raises a question of fairness during his tenure as the CJI. 
  • Retiring judges must be given a cooling-off period because otherwise their decisions will be biased towards the ruling government in order to gain post-retirement jobs. 
  • However, RS nomination would only mean that he will be able to take his judicial experience of years to the Rajya sabha. 

Navy to get four more P­8I aircraft

  • long ­range maritime reconnaissance Anti­Submarine Warfare air­ craft from Boeing
  • Delivery process will be com­pleted by January 2022

Permanent commission to female officers of Navy

  • permanent commission to SSC women officers
  • Supreme Court upheld the right of serv­ing Short Service Commis­ sion (SSC) women officers of the Navy to be granted per­manent commission (PC) on a par with their male counterparts.
  • Much of the difference is only on the grounds of gender stereotyping. 
  • The battle for gender equality is about confronting the battles of the mind.
