NATIONAL GREEN TRIBUNAL

Origin – Summit of UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE on ENVIRONMENT and DEVELOPMENT(UNCED) in 1992.
Established in INDIA- 18 Oct 2010 through National Green Tribunal Act, 2010
NGT shall not be bounded by the procedure laid under Code of Civil Procedure, 1908
Delhi Pollution Control Committee(DPCC) works under the act of NGT
It draws inspiration from The Constitution of India[ Part III/ Article 21]– Protection of ‘life and Personal Liberty
The tribunal is mandated to make and endeavor for disposal of applications or appeals finally within 6 months of filing the same.

NGT deals with Civil cases under 7 laws related to environment:-

  1. The Water (Preservation and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974
  2. The Water (Preservation and Control of Pollution) Cess Act, 1977
  3. The Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980
  4. The Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981
  5. The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986
  6. The Public Liability Insurance Act, 1991
  7. The Biological Diversity Act, 2002
