JUST UPDATES ON COVID-19

  • Travel from EU, U.K. banned as India tightens preventive steps against Coronavirus.
  • India has been trying to protect itself from community spread of the Coronavirus.
  • Government is going to issue 10 Lakh kits for checking community spread of Coronavirus. 
  • ‘India still in second transmission stage’. Third stage refers to the Community transfer stage.
  • Vulnerable groups like Prisoners, migrant workers, etc have to be tested and isolated. 

FLOOR TESTS IN THE HOUSES 

  • Floor tests are conducted to check if the ruling government enjoys the strength required to continue. 
  • The majority is counted on the basis of those present and voting. This effectively reduces the strength of the House and in turn brings down the majority-mark. 
  • It is different from a Composite floor test which is conducted when more than one party claims to have the numbers required to form a government. 
  • Recently, in Madhya Pradesh there has been a demand for conducting a floor test to see if the government has the numbers or not. 

GOVERNMENT TO GIVE 20 YEARS TO TELCOS TO PAY THEIR DUES 

  • In the aftermath of the AGR decision of the Supreme Court Telcos had to pay huge money to the government.
  • This ruptured their financial strength, since the sector has to continuously invest in upgradation and adaptation. 
  • India is on the path of digitalisation, and we need 5G, not 4G with huge tariffs. 
  • Companies had it coming. They were aware of the consequences and yet they decide to defer the payments. 
  • This raises a significant question: Where are we heading in terms of arm-twisting by major corporates? 

PUNJAB TO HONOUR SIMRANJIT KAUR 

  • She has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. 
  • First woman boxer from the state to have qualified for the olympics. 
  • A cash reward of rupees 5 Lakhs will be provided to her. 
  • Sports in the country suffer on:-

  • Khelo India has been introduced to fill this vacuum. It will be accompanied with the Fit India games. 

APPROPRIATION BILL PASSED IN THE PARLIAMENT 

  • It allows the government to withdraw money from the consolidated fund while the Finance bill under the union budget is passed. 
  • It allows for day to day business of the government and implementation of the policies. 
  • In order to expedite the passage, a ‘Guillotine’ was applied by the speaker to club the discussion on all other pending matters.
