ISA, is an initiative that was launched by our PM and Mr. Francois Hollande, former President of France on 30th November 2015 at COP-21 in Paris.
The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is a treaty based inter-governmental organization working to create a global market system to tap the benefits of solar power and promote clean energy applications
Headquarter-: interim Secretariat at the NISE( National institute of solar Energy) ,Gurugram
Target Group-: Countries between Tropic of Cancer and tropic of Capricorn
Objective-: Coalition of parties to establish an International Solar Alliance to collectively address key common challenges to the scaling up of solar energy in line with their needs.
GOI has given 5 Acre of land to ISA in NISE( National institute of solar Energy) ,Gurugram. Apart from that GOI has released a amount of 160 crore to meet it’s various expenditure up to the year 2021-22.
The Assembly is the decision making body. Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Power of GOI is President of the Assembly and Govt. of France act as Co-President of the Assembly.
1st Assembly
· It was held on 3 October 2018 and attended by 78 countries. during the first Assembly of the ISA an Indian resolution to extend the Membership of the organisation to all countries that are Members of the United Nations was adopted.
· 2 of the major activities of 1st Assembly
o STAR-C -: building a network of technical training and research centres in order to promote knowledge dissemination and capacity-building with regards to solar energy and infrastructure projects.
o INFOPEDIA-: Online platform dedicated for knowledge and best practices of Solar Energy.
2nd Assembly
· The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy hosted the second Assembly on 30 and 31 October 2019 in New Delhi.
· As on date 81 countries of the 121 prospective member countries have signed the Framework Agreement of the ISA. Of these, 58 countries have ratified the same.
