NATGRID

NATGRID is National Intelligence Grid.

It is Integrated master DataBase structure of Core Security Agencies of Government of India under Ministry of Home Affairs.

It was mooted by then Home Minister, P. Chidambaram in 2009 after the 2008 Mumbai-Attack.

It is intending to setup an Entity Extradiction, Visualization and Analytics (EVA) system.

Government of India in July,2016 appointed Ashok Patnaik as CEO of NATGRID.

In 2019, NATGRID is headed by and IPS officer, Ashish Gupta.

Feb 5, 2020 – MHA announced in Parliament that project NATGRID with all it’s required physical infrastructure be completed by March,2020.
The whole DataBase is supposed to go live by 31 Dec, 2020.

10 security agencies will have have the authorization and to be said 70 people will have access.

The data recovery center for NATGRID is at Bengaluru.

It is said 11 central agencies can access the data namely :-
1. Research and Analytics Wing(R&AW)
2. National Investigation Agency(NIA)
3. Intelligence Bureau(IB)
4. Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI)
5. Financial Intelligence Unit(FIU)
6. Central Bureau of Direct Taxes(CBDT)
7. Directorate of Revenue Intelligence(DRI)
8. Enforcement Directorate (ED)
9. Narcotics Control Bureau(NCB)
10. Central Bureau of Indirect Taxes and Customs(CBIC)
11. Directorate General of GST Intelligence

In March this year, NATGRID signed an MoU to access Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) database which will give them direct access to 14,000 Police Stations. All State Police have been mandated to file an FIR under CCTNS.

Recently, NATGRID has signed an MoU with the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) to access the centralized online database on FIR and Stolen Vehicles.
