The motto of Indian air force has inspired many Indians to want to become the part of this elite group but only few get the chance to actually become the warriors most of us could only dream of.

These warriors are no ordinary people, they are born from blood and sweat, they are always ready to do the county’s bidding when the mother land calls for them.

There has been many instances when The mighty Indian air force has dived in to save the moment or maybe glorify the moment.

Let’s talk about some of these major Operations done by Indian Air Force. 

1: 1947 War with Pakistan

Within the months of Independence, India had to face adversities with a country that was carved out of the Indian subcontinent. It was the first experience for IAF after the declaration of the independence and it helped IAF to gain experience for the long haul. India was able to defeat Pakistan in the very first tumble where It’s role was significant.

2: 1961; Libration of Goa (Operation Vijay) 

After the years of disagreement, Indian government finally decided on December 1961 to attack Portuguese and annexe Goa from them. IAF played an important role to bomb the runaway of Dabolim (Goa international airport) which consequently cut off the Portuguese ties from outer interference and helped India to free Goa.

 

3: 1965 War with Pakistan

We all know the history of this war but it never gets old, does it? The role of IAF was crucial in this war as they were able to capture Pakistani air bases which in turn benefitted India a lot. Though Pakistan had a bit of edge in terms of technology but IAF made sure to have the upper hand in all of its operations.

 

4: 1971 War with Pakistan (Libration of Bangladesh) 

When Pakistani air force attacked Indian air bases, India was quick to retaliate. IAF managed to crush many of Pakistani air crafts, the power of Mig-21 was something to be seen. IAF bombarded many of Pakistani base came while providing cover to Indian Army and Navy. IAF had done more than 2000 sorties during this war.

 

5: Operation Meghdoot

Today, we pride ourselves on having control over world’s highest battlefield, Siachen glacier. We didn’t get it for free. We faught for it. Meghdoot was a code word for the this operation. IAF airlifted hundreds of troops which ultimately helped us get our distinction.

 

6: 1999: Kargil War ( Operation Safed Sagar) 

There isn’t any Indian who doesn’t know the significance of 1999 war with Pakistan. It was a milestone in the history of Indian Military. IAF carried out surgical operations to provide support to ground troop to capture and secure, strategically important Tiger hill from Pakistani captors. IAF also provide cover to ground troops while carrying out other roles set upon it.

 

7: Operation Rahat (Utrakhand flood) 

In 2013, whole country shook from the heartbreaking tragedy in Uttrakhand. What started as a normal day became a nightmare for many. Indian armed forces came to rescue once again with grit unmatched. IAF helped in moving medical help and food to affected area all while getting people out of there. IAF was one the example of courage, determination and efficiency.

Indian air force has intervened more than once to save the day for which we, the Indians, shall always be grateful.
