RIC (Russia-India-China)
First question that pops up in our mind is-
“What is RIC ? “
1.To put that simply,RIC is a group of three countries i.e., RUSSIA -INDIA – CHINA, which came into being in 1990s.
The Russian leader ‘Yevgeny Primakov’ took the leadership.
2.It was formed with the motive of ‘a counter to alliance of west’
3.The members of the group was ‘no more willing to obey the foreign policy guided by U.S.,unquestionably.’
4.Russia intended to ‘rebuild’ ties with India and foster new friendship with China.
#If the group is there,It must be of some ‘significance’. So let’s have a look on it :-
1.These grouping has fortune of 19 % of total landmass of entire earth and GDP share of 33% of the globe.
2.All of them are nuclear powers.
3.Russia and China has a permanent seat in UNSC. India aspires to have one.
#Relevance of RIC grouping for India : –
1.India is having an advantageous geographical location.
2.India is abled to prevent China’s aspiration of hegemony in both maritime and continental sphere.
3.This grouping can ensure peace and tranquility in Central Asia.
#Few concerns :-
1.China’s territorial & economic expansionism.
2.China’s animosity towards India.
3.Russia’s middle position.They prefer not to take sides and do not stand entirely with India.
#Further possibilities :-
1.It is no doubt a significant grouping as It brings the three largest Eurasian countries together.
They can talk on range of issues like West Asia,Climate and Terrorissm,
2.RIC is the core of SCO(Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) & BRICS(Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). It will give strength to both of them.
3.India is committed to its sovereignty & territorial integrity. RIC will give platform for resolution of differences through dialogue.
